It took me forever to get this video up on the internet because tumblr gave zero shits about letting it work and then youtube took it’s sweet time, so the numbers and everything I say during my hysterical sobs aren’t even close to accurate anymore.

…because a number of people are posting spoilers (most of these spoilers are fake and appear to have been crafted by people who haven’t read the book, but still).
Obviously, this is now how I want to spend my Christmas Eve, and this is hugely disappointing. I knew it was inevitable, but it is stil tremendously disappointing. Presumably people are posting spoilers because they want attention, and I remember the feeling that even negative attention was better than feeling utterly anonymous and powerless in a big, cold world. I get that, but this particular strategy won’t work: At the end of the day, you won’t feel better about yourself, because all you’ll have succeeded in doing is hurting others in a way that doesn’t even help you.
Doing that turns out to feel really, really bad in a way that sticks to you in unpleasant ways for a really long time. So don’t do it.
(Bear in mind that is a tiny fraction of people who got the book early…I mean, we’re talking about 1/10th of 1%. Almost everyone has treated this whole thing with overwhelming awesomeness, and I am very grateful. But it really only takes one or two people to negatively affect the reading experiences of many.)

John, I am so, so sorry that you have to spend parts of your holidays dealing with people who can’t respect other people’s reading experiences, and this leak in general, and just… everything.
I know TFIOS will be wonderful, not because of spoilers, but because of how much you care about it, and I can’t wait to read it—on January 10, it’s ACTUAL release date.
